Creatica is New York City’s first virtual hackathon for women and non-binary individuals in high school and college from around the world. Founded on a mission to increase gender diversity within tech spaces, Creatica is a 2-day event that will equip students with the real technical skills and support network to hack together a project.

Students with all levels of coding experience are encouraged to join us and discover their potential as problem-solvers and tech leaders. Look forward to a weekend full of technical workshops, tech talks, mentorship, networking, and more!

What is a hackathon?

Creatica is a weekend-long event where young women in high school and undergrad from all around the world 🌎 come together to dream up and build software or hardware projects. Websites πŸ–₯ and mobile apps πŸ“± are common types of hacks, but you can build anything!

Can I attend?

All women and non-binary individuals who are in high school 🏫 or undergrad πŸŽ“ are welcome! You do not need to be from New York City πŸ—½, and you can join us from anywhere in the world!

When is Creatica?

Creatica will be a 4️⃣8️⃣ hour hackathon! Creatica will start on Friday at 7 PM ET and end Sunday night at 7 PM ET on the weekend of November 13 - 15, 2020. We will release a more detailed schedule by early September!

What can I do if I can't attend?

If you're in middle school 🍎 and are a woman or non-binary, email us at hello@creatica.io and tell us you want to participate! If you've graduated from undergrad and still want to help out as a mentor or workshop leader, email us at hello@creatica.io !

Do I need coding experience?

No! Creatica is the perfect opportunity for any student to make their first πŸ₯‡hackathon project. We’ll hold workshops where beginners will gain πŸ†• skills for their projects! If Creatica is your or your entire team's first hackathon, you will be eligible for our Beginner Award!

What are tracks at a hackathon? πŸ›£

Tracks are just for guidance!Β If you have an idea that might not fit in with one of Creatica's two tracks, then run with that idea! The top project within each track will be awarded a prize πŸŽ–. We will also have sponsor prizes!

What will a virtual hackathon look like?

All communication will be via Discord, opening and closing ceremonies will be through Twitch, and workshops will be on Zoom! We will make sure to send attendees a detailed document πŸ“„ with a schedule of all workshops, their topics, and how to access them.

Do I have to submit my project to a track?

No, you do not need to submit to a track, but you will need to if you want to win a track specific prize. Projects submitted to track prizes will also be eligible sponsor challenges and Creatica's overall prizes πŸ†!

What tech or tools should I bring?

A computer πŸ’», some creative ideas πŸ’‘, and ample excitement❕ You will need wifi.

How will teams work?

Teams can have a maximum of 4 people πŸ‘©πŸ» πŸ‘©πŸΌ πŸ‘©πŸ½ πŸ‘©πŸΎ to be eligible for prizes. You are also welcome to participate as an individual!

Will I still get swag? πŸ€‘

Yes! If you live in the United States πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ or are international πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡³, we'll ship swag to you free of charge thanks to our partner Major League Hacking. Award winners will receive Creatica t-shirts in addition to stickers!

What if I don't have a team, but I want to find one?

You can find a team through our team formation channel on Discord! Creatica will be a great event to go to even if you can't find friends to go with! You'll be able to meet young women with interests in tech and build connections ☺️!

How will I submit and present my project virtually?

We'll be using Devpost for all submissions!Β On Devpost, there is space for you to describe your project's inspiration, challenges you had, tools you used, etc. In terms of presenting your project, each team will submit a demo video and their code.

Volunteer

Mentor

As a volunteer, you'll support our hackers as they participate in the NYC's first virtual, all-female* hackathon. This position is open to all women Β and non-binary individuals with any level of hackathon experience.

As a mentor, you'll provide guidance and advice to our hackers as they build products throughout the weekend. This position is open to anyone (men included) with experience with hackathons and/or computer science.
